A 6.8 magnitude earthquake shakes Siberia near the border with Mongolia

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck the area is populated Tuva, located in southeastern Russia on Sunday.

The quake woke residents near the border with Mongolia, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was located about 90 kilometers east ofthe city of Kyzyl in Tuva Russian Siberia. The quake struck at about 0617 GMT at a depth of about 11.7 kilometers.

This is the second powerful earthquake shakes the region within two months. In December, has been suspended mining operations in the Kuzbass largest coal producerin Russia after the earthquake measuring 6.9 hit an area near Kyzyl.

According to the Russian news agency that the population of downtown Kyzyl gathered in front of the Ministry of local emergency warnings after the occurrence of possibleaftershocks of the earthquake.

He said one of the population, "the dishes fell from shelves at home. Tremors were too strong. Reminded me of the earthquake in December."

The news agency quoted the Ministry of Emergency in Siberia as saying that no one was hurt and there were no reports yet of damage.

Russian TV: foil a plot to assassinate Putin

Channel One television said the Russian government spokeswoman said on Monday thatRussia's security forces and Ukrainian foiled a plot to assassinate Prime Minister VladimirPutin after the presidential elections taking place on the fourth of March.

The report, which was attributed to the news of any security officials that the security services have arrested two people in Ukraine port of Odessa on the Black Sea after an explosion at a rented apartment that killed people.

The report said the planners were working for the group wants to establish an Islamic state in Russia's North Caucasus and had planned to travel to Moscow to assassinate Putin, who is expected to win the presidential election.

Channel One said that the Ukrainian security services notified the Russian FederalSecurity Service (AFP. S. B) the two men were arrested earlier this year.

He said a man described in the report of the first channel as a planner "was our ultimate goal is to go to Moscow and Putin assassination attempt on the final ... it was our appointment after the election of the President of Russia."

The agency said Russia's Interfax news agency said Dmitry Peskov, Putin's spokesmandeclined to comment on the incident. Could not be contacted immediately for comment.

Syrian troops fire into heavily in Homs, two people
